Composition of myelin from peripheral and central nervous systems of the squirrel monkey.
نویسنده
چکیده
Myelin was prepared from the brachial plexus and cervical spinal cord of adult squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus). Brachial plexus myelin contained a larger amount of sphingomyelin and smaller amounts of cholesterol, lipid galactose, ethanolamine phosphoglyceride, choline phosphoglyceride, and alk-1-enyl ether than spinal cord myelin when compared as ratios to total lipid phosphorus. The peripheral nervous system myelin had a higher proportion of protein. All of these differences were statistically significant. Thus peripheral nervous system myelin and central nervous system myelin differ in protein content and lipid composition in this subhuman primate.

There were many occupational toxins for central nervous system and peripheral nervous system such as toxic and heavy metals. The aim of this study was introduction of occupational toxins with neurological effects and inflammatory effects specially. It is a review article. Researcher found the important data about the occupational toxins for nervous systems. Author searched in related journals, ...
متن کاملThe alk-1-enyl group content of mammalian myelin phosphoglycerides by quantitative two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography.
Myelin phospholipids have been examined by a separation-reaction-separation procedure for two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography on silica gel. After separation in one dimension, alk-1-enyl groups are cleaved by exposure of the plates to HCl fumes. Development in the second dimension quantitatively separates acid-labile and acid-stable phosphoglycerides as well as the aldehydes released from...
متن کاملThe role of Tachykinins in health and disease
Background & Aim: Tachykinin peptide family is one of the largest peptide families in animals that has been first discovered in the gastrointestinal tract about 70 years ago and isolated for the first time from the small intestine and brain. Up to now, more than 40 tachykinins have been extracted from invertebrates (insects, worms and fungi) and vertebrates (skin, gastro-intestinal duct, centra...
متن کاملTopical Review Is the Myelin Membrane Abnormal in Multiple Sclerosis?
Myelin, a multilamellar membrane surrounding nerve fibers of both the central and peripheral nervous systems, is derived from the plasma membrane of the oligodendrocyte (CNS) and Schwann cell (PNS). The chemical composition of myelin differs markedly from that of its progenitor membrane. In addition, the chemical composition of CNS myelin differs from that of PNS myelin. This review will be con...
متن کاملWhy does the central nervous system not regenerate after injury?
A major problem for neuroscientists and clinicians is why the central nervous system shows ineffective regeneration after injury. Injured peripheral nerve fibers reform their connections, whereas those in injured spinal cord never re-grow. Insights into the mechanisms for repair and restoration of function after spinal cord injury have been obtained by experiments showing that injured nerve cel...
